odds and ends

Check out this cutie!

Now that fall is fully upon us, I decided to post some things I'm working on. It's been a while huh? In October, the fam and I went to the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival (that's where I took the picture of the guy above). It was so awesome. I hadn't spent much money on yarn this year, so this was the perfect oppurtunity for me to splurge :)

Didn't take many pictures of the yarns I got, but here's one my mom picked out. She wants a hat with a crocheted flower on it. I think it will look great.

I'm also working on designing a sweater. I've been really inspired lately, and I hope that this is the first of many original creations for me. When the fall/winter collections come out, I love browsing the crazy expensive sweaters that could easily be replicated by the handknitter. This was my first inspiration:
and here is the project in progress:

This is definitely a learning experience for me so far. I'm knitting top down, and increasing in that cable pattern was kind of a pain to figure out. Oh, and, yes, that's the top. It kind of looks like the bottom. The gauge in that cable pattern is so tight, but it's going to stretch like crazy when blocked. I also think the original pattern was made at a much larger gauge anyway (I'm using 10.5 needles, and I bet the one above was around 13). But, of course I couldn't really figure that out until I started. We'll see how it goes! I transferred it to scrap yarn recently to try on, and it fits how I had imagined--kind of slouchy and very warm! Hopefully progress will continue...

vacation is coming...

After a summer of working, I'm finally going on a little vacation. This weekend my family and I are heading out to Martha's Vineyard for what should be a wonderful and relaxing vacation. And to get me pumped up, I've been trying to find the perfect project to bring with me!

I was hoping to be able to finish my Nightsongs shawl by the time we are leaving, but I'm not sure if I will get to or not. If I do finish by some chance, I doubt I'll be able to block it. But here's to hoping...

I've named it Beigesong!

I'm supposed to have 7 repeats, and I think I've got 5 so far. I'm using a worsted (Blue Heron rayon/metallic) in place of a fingering weight yarn, so I'm not sure if I'll need all 7 repeats. Maybe 6 will suffice.

My dilemma is this: I thought it would be fun and easy to bring a shawl along for a project but after just finishing one, will I want to make another?? Another option is a garment--a top-down sweater maybe? And then, what yarn to use?! I need to use something out of my stash.

Top choices coming soon...

yay camera!!

I've been wanting a camera for quite some time now. Over breakfast, Bryan and I were sitting drinking coffee and looking at the newspaper. In the sale flyer, we saw a camera and I casually said, "I want a camera." He says, "OK, let's go get it."

voila!

I got a Nikon Coolpix camera, just a nice little point-and-shoot thing. I've already taken about 100 pictures, mostly of the cats :)

aren't they precious??

there's also a lot of yarny things coming...

whoopie pie!

Last night we went out to celebrate our friend's birthday. We started the evening at Snacky, which had really yummy steamed buns filled with pork, or veggies, or both. YUM. Then we mosied over to our favorite bar of seasons past for a few drinks before calling it a night. A fun time, and our birthday friend was wasted before the night was over--so mission accomplished for him!

Before I left work though, I really thought I would have much rather went home. I have alot of my shows backed up on the dvr that I can't watch due to MARCH MADNESS occupying the tv screen at all times. ugh. I will have to catch up on my shows over the weekend...

But tonight we are making whoopie pies!! (photo from eatingwell not from my pies) Not only do they look delicious, but they are healthy too? geesh. I can't wait!

baby sweater :)

I am so pathetic that I can't keep a real blog :(

This is a sweater I knitted for my boss's baby (born in December). I love how it came out and I recently got a picture of baby Caroline in the sweater!! Babies are so freakin cute!!

awww, right? She is waving at me! Saying "I love the sweater, thanks!"

Besides not posting anything for half of a year... My digital camera up and broke. When DH and I were in Florida on a little vacation I dropped the camera in the middle of the road after a giant fishbowl pina colada. Geesh. Now, when I turn the camera on/off the lens freaks out and won't shut...basically just spazzing out. After messing with it, now I can't even get the camera to turn on. It was a cheap camera anyway.

So! I found a target giftcard for $50 during spring cleaning over the weekend... and I am going to use it towards a new camera! Wee!

more vintage patterns

Soo cute! Imagine a little crocheted watermelon bikini top...

This guy approached me through school about drawing some stuff for his website. Supposedly its a film website for "cinephiles" living in NY and LA to stay connected to the film scene. Sounds like it will either be really interesting, or really amateur-ish and I'm not interested. I lied so I can leave work early to meet this guy. We will see what happens!!
